Fornax; Unstructured Data ...
More than 90% of data generated today is unstructured. Such data requires a different approach to storage, classification and processing. Estatom's Polymach-Fornax technologies are able to manage, store, classify and co-ordinate unstructured information, as well as the structured data types and forms. Unique classification and very fast access mechanisms are employed in Polymach. Additionally, there are no programmed limits in the system, except for licensing purposes.
The management of unstructured data with Polymach - Fornax means that unstructured data is stored as is. It is not modified and resides in its raw form. It is not processed, but associated with that data, other objects can be added to give meaning to the data.
Unstructured data must be extracted and can then be processed by a suitable application. Additional information, associated with the object can be extracted and then presented to the external program, such as a movie player. Searching of the unstructured data is done by utilising a third party application.
Fornax presently is not inherently able, and cannot search unstructured data. Pictures, for example, can be stored, along with other types of binary data.
Processing is fundamentally done by the processing application.
A Fornax database can also be stored in other Fornax, and used as a back up for another database. This can also be processed. The power of association in the Fornax engine is important, because many things can be associated in to names and other associations. For example, if the user is looking at all the data pertaining to an accident, all the people that are involved, witnesses, forensic evidence, case files etc. all this information might be recorded by different people on different devices. Fornax overcomes this problem as all of this can be stored and associated within the Fornax database.
